New Consent Requirements for Student Support Services in 2025–26

During the 89th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 was passed, requiring school districts to inform parents and guardians of their rights and to seek parental consent for school counseling and health-related services.
In La Porte ISD, our goal is to be a supportive partner in this effort by providing high-quality academic instruction while also supporting the overall well-being of our students so they can remain focused on learning. Teachers and staff may occasionally check in with students about their well-being (for example, asking how a child is feeling). At times, more formalized support may be needed. When this occurs, our intent is always to work in ways that align with your role as the parent or guardian.
To support this partnership, La Porte ISD provides a variety of health-related and counseling services for students. Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, state law requires parents to provide annual consent for these services. Two forms are available in the ParentSquare Portal:
- Notice of and Consent for Counseling Services
- Notice of and Consent for School Health-Related Services
These forms are available for completion by logging into your ParentSquare portal.
If you have additionaal questions, you may also contact your child’s school nurse or counselor.
We appreciate your partnership in the education and well-being of your child. Thank you for completing the required forms and for working with us to ensure our students remain safe, supported, and focused on their education.
