La Porte ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson elected TASA vice president

The Texas Association of School Administrators Executive Committee has elected La Porte ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson as TASA vice president for 2026–27. He will assume the role June 1 after completing his Executive Committee term May 31. Dr. Jackson will become TASA’s president in 2028.
Dr. Jackson is serving a 2024–2026 term on the TASA Executive Committee as the Region 4 representative, having previously served in the same role from 2022 to 2024 and as an at-large member from 2019 to 2021. He has also served on TASA’s Advocacy and Professional Learning committees and has been a member of the association since 2015.
In addition to his leadership within TASA, Dr. Jackson was elected in 2023 to serve as one of three Texas representatives on the AASA Governing Board, a role he will hold through June 2026. He also serves as a member of the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council.
“I am deeply honored to have the confidence of my colleagues across Texas and to continue serving through this leadership role,” Dr. Jackson said. “TASA plays a critical role in supporting superintendents and advancing public education, and I look forward to working alongside dedicated leaders to advocate for students, educators, and communities across our state.”
Dr. Jackson has more than 30 years of experience in public education and has served as superintendent of La Porte ISD since 2020, becoming the district’s first African American superintendent. He previously led Brenham ISD as its first African American superintendent and served as an area superintendent in Alief ISD. His leadership has earned statewide recognition, including Region 6 Superintendent of the Year and the TSPRA Key Communicator Award. In 2025, he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by Liberty ISD.
Dr. Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University, a Master of Education in Administration from Prairie View A&M University, and a doctorate in education from Baylor University. His post-graduate studies include four sessions at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he earned a Professional Leadership Certificate. He also holds an Advanced Management Certificate from Rice University.
