Summer is here! - A message from Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson
June 10, 2021
I was so proud to personally congratulate 500 graduating seniors last month during the 2021 commencement exercises for The Academy at Viola DeWalt High School on May 27, and La Porte High School the following evening. See photos from The Academy graduation here. Photos from the La Porte High School graduation are here. LPSportsNet also streamed each event in HD.
Graduation ceremonies send a very strong message to our community. First they tell the community that we have been successful in our commitment to educate students from kindergarten to 12th grade. It also serves as an inspiration as many of our students are considered the first in their families to graduate. One of the many blessings that we are afforded in America is that all students can take full advantage of this opportunity to be wonderfully educated through a free public education. We are proud of the graduates from La Porte High School and the Academy of Viola DeWalt High School; we know by receiving their diplomas, these students are ready and prepared to face the next stage in their lives.
We are thankful to San Jacinto College for appropriating funds for the graduates of La Porte High School and the Academy of Viola DeWalt High School the opportunity to attend college in the fall for FREE. We are so fortunate to live in a community where everyone works together to support the learning growth and development of our students!
La Porte ISD is open for business!
Although the 2020-21 school year wrapped up in late May, our campuses are still abuzz with activity. Hundreds of students are participating in summer academic enrichment programs and athletics camps. More than 160 elementary students are registered for La Porte ISD's inaugural Fine Arts Enrichment Camp, which happens June 14-17. We have camps all the way through July, and we would love to welcome more smiling faces! Our list of camps is here.
As we welcome hundreds of students to our summer programs, we are well into our preparations for the 2021-22 school year, when we will welcome home countless students and families. However, you can best support us by helping us spread the word that La Porte ISD is open for business. Our business is educating students in a caring and nurturing environment.
In your service,
Dr. Walter Jackson
