A message from Dr. Jackson
Dear La Porte ISD Family,
We have completed another outstanding school year, and I want to thank you for your commitment to supporting our district as we strive to provide an excellent education for our students. We have so much to celebrate!
On May 25 and May 26, more than 450 seniors walked across the graduation stages at the Bulldog Centre and Bulldog Stadium. Thirty-one graduates also earned an associate degree through our partnership with San Jacinto College.
Our graduations were the grand finales of an extraordinary school year, which began in August when 30 La Porte High School students were named as AP Scholars. Also, beginning this past fall, our nationally recognized music education program began a string of 13 UIL Sweepstakes awards won during the 2022-23 school year. The La Porte Indoor Drumline also competed at State, and two band members were named All-State.
La Porte's athletics programs produced a multitude of playoff teams and individual honors. The Lady Dawgs Basketball Team won the Bi-District and Area playoff rounds by a combined 44 points. Six Lady Dawgs earned spots on the All-District roster, while 10 were named Academic All-District. Meanwhile, 13 members of the Bulldogs Football Team were named All-District, while 18 earned Academic All-District honors. Our Track & Field teams also continued their tradition of excellence with several members of the boys and girls teams advancing to the Regional meet, and the Baseball team had a historic playoff run, advancing four rounds into the postseason. It was the Bulldogs' deepest playoff run since 2004, and they accomplished the feat with six members of the Academic All-State Team. Our junior high boys and girls teams also enjoyed much success in volleyball, football, basketball and soccer. We are so proud of our scholar athletes!
Our academic competitors also enjoyed tremendous success in the 2022-23 school year. Our Academic Decathlon, History Fair and eSports teams all advanced to state competition. The eSports team, which is at Lomax Jr. High, won the State Championship in one event while grabbing a runner-up spot i another. It was their first year to participate.
La Porte ISD has a rich FFA tradition, and 2022-23 was no exception. Between multiple shows, including San Antonio and Houston, our FFA students won several Supreme Champion and Grand Champion honors. Congratulations to all of our FFA students for an excellent year!
Our success is borne from a commitment to excellence on the part of stakeholders such as our wonderful La Porte Education Foundation. For almost 30 years, the Foundation has supported our classrooms with funding for innovative and creative "extras." This past school year, the organization gave more than $168,000 in classroom and special grants. They generate funds through donations and community events such as the annual Golf Tournament and the Hoops Classic — La Porte "Hoop Dogs" vs. the world famous Harlem Wizards.
Speaking of community events, our second annual Lemonade Day-La Porte not only showcased the entrepreneurial spirit of more than 100 fifth and sixth grade students, but it also evidenced the value of community partnerships. We revived our Partners in Education program in the 2022-23 school year and it took very little time to realize how blessed we are to live in such a giving community. Through this program, we welcomed several partners from area businesses and industry — including hundreds of volunteers — who believe that La Porte ISD is the heartbeat of the community. In addition to adopting campuses to sponsor, our partners also helped bring Lemonade Day to fruition through their mentorship. Thank you!
As always, I appreciate your support of our wonderful school district.
With La Porte Pride,
Dr. Walter Jackson
