All three La Porte High School bands made school history by earning the coveted Sweepstakes award at the 2021 UIL Concert & Sightreading contest on April 21-22.

To achieve the Sweepstakes honor, a band must receive composite Division One (superior) ratings from judges. It is first time that the Concert, Symphonic and Wind Ensemble bands have achieved the feat in the same year.

The band program additionally earned a Class A Sweepstakes award for the entire program. This encompasses both the Varsity Marching Band and Varsity Wind Ensemble earning Sweepstakes.

In addition to these successes, the La Porte High School Indoor Drumline received first place in A Class at Winter Guard International, and both Varsity and Non-Varsity Color Guards received first place honors at their Texas Color Guard Circuit contests.

The La Porte High School Band and Color Guard staff is:  Director of Bands Doug Eger, Assistant Director Michael Lehmann, Assistant Director and Percussion Director Mark Fennell, and Color Guard Director Derek Nicholson.

The bands are scheduled to perform a spring concert at 7 p.m. on May 11 at Sonja Angelo Theater, on the high school campus.
