In light of the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, we are sharing some information.  Health officials say the Omicron variant is significantly more contagious than previous variants, but, in most cases, it causes mild symptoms.

However, it could be dangerous to at-risk populations and the elderly.  The good news is that doctors believe the variant will peak in mid to late January.

We are taking the following additional precautions to help slow the spread of the virus:

  • We continue to strongly encourage and highly recommend the use of masks, as recommended by the CDC due to the contagious nature of the virus;

  • We will postpone school lunch visits until further notice;

  • We will postpone school assemblies and field trips;

  • Large staff meetings will be conducted remotely when possible;

  • Students and employees will socially distance at least three feet when possible;

  • We have increased our cleaning efforts;

  • We will continue to encourage hand-washing and other preventative actions;

  • Testing remains available for students and employees who are symptomatic or who have experienced known exposure. Testing appointments can be made for employees by contacting the Human Resources Department and for students by contacting your child’s campus.

At this time, La Porte ISD will continue to follow district protocols and timelines for return to school/work. The protocols can be found at lpisd.org.  We will continue to monitor the health and safety of our students and staff.
