October is among the busiest months of the year for La Porte ISD performing arts students – and the most successful.  Between UIL marching contest and several All-Region auditions, La Porte students added quite a few accolades to their trophy cases.

 

La Porte High School Band

La Porte High School’s Mighty Bulldog Marching Band on Oct. 23 earned a finalist spot for the second straight year – and second time since 1989 – at the UIL Area Marching Contest in Katy.

The band qualified for UIL Area by earning the coveted Sweepstakes award at the Oct. 16 UIL Region 19 Marching Contest.

To achieve the Sweepstakes honor, a band must receive composite Division One (superior) ratings from judges.

The La Porte High School Band staff is: Director of Bands Doug Eger, Assistant Director Michael Lehmann, Assistant Director and Percussion Director Mark Fennell.

Junior High All-Region Orchestra

Three La Porte ISD students were named to the Region 19 All-Region Orchestra after Oct. 23 auditions at Jackson Intermediate School in Pasadena ISD.

·         Yojana Gonzalez Puente, violin (8th grader at Lomax Jr. High School)

·         Adan Charles, bass (7th grader at Lomax Jr. High School)

·         Ethan Garcia, cello (7th grader at La Porte Jr. High School)

Kim Reedy is the head director of the La Porte Jr. High orchestra; Brian Bires directs the Lomax Jr. High orchestra.

La Porte High School All-Region Orchestra

Three La Porte High School students earned a chair in the Region 19 All-Region Orchestra after Oct. 16 auditions at Pasadena Memorial High School.

·         Josias Gonzalez, violin

·         Brian Velasquez, viola

 Christina Bires is the head orchestra director.

Junior High All-Region Choir

Five La Porte ISD junior high students were named to the All-Region Jr. High Choir following Oct. 23 auditions at Fairmont Jr. High School in Deer Park ISD.

·         Camden Morrill (8th grader at La Porte Jr. High School)

·         Addison Kornegay (8th grader at Lomax Jr. High School)

·         Madalyn Tercero (8th grader at Lomax Jr. High School)

·         Isabel Wantland (7th grader at Lomax Jr. High School)

·         Michaela Houston (8th grader at Lomax Jr. High School)

The Junior High All-Region Concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at Deer Park High School South. Riley Smith is the choir director at La Porte Jr. High; Brian Boeshore directs the Lomax Jr. High choir.

La Porte High School Choir members will audition for the Texas Music Educators Association Region Choir on Nov. 1 at Pasadena Memorial High School. The high school band, on Nov. 6 will march in the USBands Remo Gold Series Finale Marching Contest at Magnolia West High School.
