Dr. Alicia Upchurch will become La Porte ISD’s executive director of elementary education, and Linda Hyde will return to Heritage Elementary School as its new principal, the district announced on June 7.
Dr. Alicia Upchurch
Dr. Upchurch has served as the principal of James H. Baker Sixth Grade Campus for five years. Upon joining La Porte ISD in 2000, she served as the assistant principal at Bayshore Elementary and Jennie Reid Elementary. Additionally, she has served as the associate principal at Lomax Junior High and the principal at both Lomax Elementary and James H. Baker Sixth Grade. Before joining the La Porte family, Dr. Upchurch served as a second and third-grade teacher in Pasadena ISD for seven years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in education with an early childhood endorsement from Baylor University and earned her master’s degree in educational management from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. She completed her Doctor of Education in educational leadership at Nova Southeastern University.
Linda Hyde
Hyde will be returning to the campus where she served as assistant principal and La Porte ISD Early Childhood Center director until 2020 when she was promoted to the principal post at La Porte Elementary School. Current Principal Grisel Wallace’s retirement becomes effective on June 30, at which time Hyde will take the campus reins. The transition of leadership has already commenced and will continue into the summer. Hyde, a La Porte High School graduate, has worked as an educator in La Porte ISD for the entirety of her 26-year public school career. She has served in various instructional roles, including classroom teacher, enrichment specialist, and curriculum/media specialist. A meet and greet opportunity will be planned for the Heritage students, staff and community. More details will follow.
