La Porte High School senior golfer Nicholas Canales began the 2021-22 campaign by topping the leaderboard at the Oct. 25 Buccaneer Invitational in Brazoswood.
His three-under-par 69 was two shots better than the second-place finisher, leading the Bulldogs to a seventh-place finish in a field of 20 teams. It also led Canales to his first individual win at this tournament in four tries. He finished third in his freshman and junior years. As a sophomore, he earned the runner-up spot.
