La Porte ISD property owners will have a lower 2023 property tax rate following approval Monday by the district’s Board of Trustees.

The Board set the year’s rate at $0.9739 per $100 of assessed property value, $.6920 of which is for maintenance and operations of the school district, with $.2819 designated to pay principal and interest on outstanding bond indebtedness.

The 2023 rate is a decrease of $.2826 from a year ago.

“Our stakeholders give so much to La Porte ISD, and we wanted to help ensure that they get to keep more of their hard-earned dollars this year,” Board President Danny Hanks said.

Even without the tax rate decrease, La Porte ISD has had among the lowest property tax rates in the area for several years and has earned 20 consecutive "A" ratings for Superior Achievement under Texas' FIRST financial accountability system.

“Our Board carefully considered relief for taxpayers as well as the needs of our students and staff,” Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson said. “We will continue being fiscally conservative and efficient in our ongoing efforts to make every student’s success our top priority.”
