Another Sweepstakes sweep for the La Porte High School Band

All three La Porte High School bands rewrote school history by earning the coveted Sweepstakes award at the 2022 UIL Concert & Sightreading contest on April 21-22. 

This is the second straight year – and second time in school history – for the bands to earn a musical hat trick.   

To achieve the Sweepstakes honor, a band must receive composite Division One (superior) ratings from judges. It is first time that the Concert, Symphonic and Wind Ensemble bands have achieved the feat in the same year.  

The band program additionally earned a Class A Sweepstakes award for the entire program. This encompasses both the Varsity Marching Band and Varsity Wind Ensemble earning sweepstakes.   

 With the three band Sweepstakes honors, La Porte ISD performing arts programs wrap up the 2021-22 school year with 12 Sweepstakes awards. 

The La Porte High School Band staff is:  Director of Bands Doug Eger, Assistant Director Michael Lehmann, Assistant Director and Percussion Director Mark Fennell. 

The bands are scheduled to perform a spring concert at 7 p.m. on May 17 at Sonja Angelo Theater, on the high school campus.
