The La Porte High School Academic Decathlon team has qualified to compete at the Texas Academic Decathlon State Meet after winning eight medals, including individual runner-up at the regional meet on Jan. 27-28.
Team members include Jacob Joji, who medaled in Interview; Rebekah Gilmore, who medaled in Speech and Interview; Kennedy Marks, who medaled in Math; and Amy Du who medaled in Art, Essay, and Interview. Du also earned the overall individual runner-up medal.
Other members advancing to state are Carol De La Rosa, Keenan Urban, Lauranh Nguyen, Daniel Ortiz, and Michelle Springer.
“We are very proud of our Academic Decathlon team for representing their school at such a high level,” said Jaime Licon, who coaches the team with Michael Karm. “We wish them luck as they continue to study for the state competition.”
The Texas Academic Decathlon Meet is held Feb. 23-26 in San Antonio and Frisco.
