Important information regarding Public Information Requests
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, La Porte ISD closed all physical facilities effective March 16. Employees will work remotely beginning March 25. A date for re-opening the District’s facilities has not yet been established.
This closure will affect the processing of requests for information under the Texas Public Information Act. Under the law, the District ordinarily responds to requests for information within 10 business days. However, the definition of “business” day excludes days when the District’s facilities are closed for business. Once the District re-opens and resumes its regular operations, all pending PIA requests will be processed in accordance with the above rules.
Additionally, the District is not currently recording any board meetings that may be held during the COVID-19 pandemic. School districts the size of La Porte ISD are not legally required to record their Board meetings, see Tex. Gov’t Code §§ 551.021(a); 551.128(b-1), and the District normally only records meetings as an aid to creating the required minutes. Because of required social distancing measures, and to reduce the number of people who are required to be physically present at board meetings, the District has suspended recording its board meetings until future notice.
