Board Qualifications & Elections Information
Filing for a place on the ballot is set by state statute and will run from January 18 to February 17, 2023 (filing deadline). An application for a place on the ballot may be obtained at the LPISD Administration Building after December 30, 2022.
Filing requirements for School Board Trustee according to Election Code Section 141.001 are that a person must: be a US citizen; be at least 18 years of age; have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities; have resided in the State of Texas for one (1) year and in the school district for six (6) months prior to the filing deadline; be a registered voter in the territory elected by the filing deadline.
How to file
An application for a place on the ballot may be obtained from the District's elections secretary at the LPISD Administration Building after December 30, 2022. An application may be filed beginning January 18, 2022 through February 17, 2023 at 4:30 PM (filing deadline), in person; with the District's elections secretary at the District's Administration Building; by mail; an application submitted by mail is considered to be filed at the time of its receipt by the appropriate filing authority; or by fax or email; A signed, sworn, scanned candidate application (and petition, if applicable) may be submitted by fax or email. Please be advised that an application must be notarized prior to filing via fax or email.
