When we arrived at our State DECA Competition in San Antonio on Thursday 25 FEB 2016 at the registration table a gentleman who handled my registration said "Why are you here?" He noticed I had 1 student competing. I responded "well it Only takes 1!" I'm happy to say La Porte ISD after 20 years of having students compete in the various DECA competitions and having students advance to State over the years we have our 1st National Qualifier and State Winner!

Elizabeth E. competed along with over 4,000 students at our State DECA Competition and against hundreds in her category Restaurant Management and she placed 2nd in the State of Texas.

For the 1st time in 20 years we have a student going to Nationals this April in Nashville, Tennessee. (Note: This is a great celebration for our community, school and CTE Dept especially for Hope Salas who is Elizabeth's Culinary Arts instructor).

So what's the moral to this story? No matter how long it takes....Don't Quit and Don't Give Up, because it ONLY takes 1!
