Education Foundation gives more than $150K to teachers, administrators

The La Porte Education Foundation's Dollar Patrol, which is comprised of foundation members, school district officials, and community members, traveled to all the campuses in the district to award grants to 144 teachers.

Grants awarded for the 2017-18 school year will be used to purchase some of the following items:  iPads, comparison microscopes, document cameras, digital balance scales, and a 3D printer.

“Teachers here in the district are dedicated to bringing current and emerging technologies into the classrooms to reach 21st century learners," La Porte Education Foundation Executive Director Charlotte Pennye said.  “We are so grateful for the continued support of our donors who help to make the Dollar Patrol possible.”

Campuses in the district received these cumulative grant total amounts:

  • James H. Baker Sixth Grade Campus $27,356.30
  • Bayshore Elementary $3,552.08
  • College Park Elementary $15,313.65
  • Viola DeWalt High School $1,562.12
  • Heritage Elementary $3,810.37
  • Jennie Reid Elementary $4,916.44
  • La Porte Elementary $11,644.28
  • La Porte High School $10,526.75
  • La Porte Junior High School $8,792.43
  • Lomax Elementary $19,549.96
  • Lomax Junior High School $26,266.24
  • Leo A. Rizzuto Elementary $7,611.68
  • Special Programs $9,270.27
Since 1993, the foundation has awarded more than $2 million in grants to teachers, counselors and administrators in La Porte ISD for innovative educational projects.
