Freshman runs to top 10 finish at State Meet

Schoppe's time of 9:26.864 was second-best among Greater Houston area contestants; the 3,200 winner is from the Dallas area and set the state record for the event in 2016.
To qualify for the state meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin, Schoppe placed in the Regional 3200-meter event with a time of 09:28.
Earlier in the season at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Schoppe set a school record in the 3200 meter event, with a time of 09:19. (The previous record of 09:22 was set in 1991.)  Not only was he the lone freshman in the elite field of juniors and seniors, his time placed him among the fastest ninth-graders in the U.S., according to Head Track Coach Zach Johnson.
Congratulations, Ryan!
