The La Porte Education Foundation's Dollar Patrol on November 17 surprised 176 district staff members with a total of $150,600.
Volunteers and administrators traveled throughout the district to distribute the checks. La Porte High School cheerleaders, Chatos and band members added spirit and excitement to the multi-campus tour.
The awards will be used for everything from a wireless assessment system to physical fitness devices designed to make getting in shape more fun. And, of course, plenty of fiction and non-fiction books for classroom libraries.
"The grants awarded today will help teachers bring a lot of innovation to the classroom," La Porte Education Foundation Executive Director Charlotte Pennye said. "Our teachers have some extraordinarily innovative ideas to improve learning."
Since 1993, the foundation has awarded more than $1.8 million in grants to teachers, counselors and administrators in La Porte ISD for innovative educational projects.
