Cross country duo wraps up season on a high note

Ramirez, who has committed to run for Stephen F. Austin University in 2017, placed 84th at the Texas Cross Country Championships in Round Rock with a time of 19:29. Schoppe, meanwhile, came in 43rd and was the first freshman to cross the finish line. His time of 15:56 was a personal best at Old Settlers Park, the host course.

Ryan Schoppe
Schoppe was the only freshman in Texas to qualify individually for the state meet.

He ran away with the District 22-6A (individual) Cross Country Championship with a personal record time of 15:40 – 45 seconds ahead of the next competitor.

His eighth place finish at the Region 3 Cross Country Meet on Oct. 29 qualified Schoppe to compete at state.

Kelsey Ramirez
Ramirez qualified for the regional cross country meet all four years of high school, and has represented La Porte High School in several regional and area track events since she was in 10th grade.

She capped off the 2016 district campaign by winning the 22-6A (individual) Cross Country Championship; she placed 12th at the Region 3 Cross Country Meet.
