La Porte alumnus wins gold in Rio

Clement posted a time of 47.73 to beat the field. His is the first U.S. track gold medal in these Olympics.

Clement, a standout athlete at LPHS, was named the 2003 Gatorade National High School Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year.  

At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Clement won a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles and was a member of the 4 X 400-meter relay team that earned a gold medal. He was also on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team that competed in London.

Clement attended the University of Florida, where he was a two-time NCAA Outdoor champion in 2004 and 2005 and the 2005 NCAA Indoor 400-meter champion.  In addition, he is a two-time USA Outdoor champion who placed third in the 400-meters at the 2009 USA Outdoor competition.

Clement also is a two-time World Outdoor champion in 2007 and 2009 and was a member of the World Outdoor Championship 4 X 400 team that won gold medals in 2007 and 2009.
