Staff should never underestimate the power of appearance. The manner in which staff members dress sets the climate for the learning environment as well as create an impression on parents and the community.
Employees, substitutes, authorized visitors, and designated supervisory personnel are issued and required to wear an appropriate district identification tag. This tag must be worn in a visible manner at all times while the employee is on duty.
| Generic |
• Hair shall be clean, neatly groomed and non-distracting
• All body peircings and tattoos must not be visible
• No head coverings
• Jeans allowed only on Friday spirit days
• Friday spirit day shirts must have collars
• Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times
• Shoes traditionally worn around the home (e.g., house shoes) or to the beach (e.g., flip-flop design) are not permitted
• Athletic shoes may be worn only on Friday spirit days
• Appropriate undergarments must be worn at all times
| Men |
• No earrings
• Facial hair must be well-groomed
• Neckties are required
• All shirts must have a collar
• Dress or casual slacks should be belted if loops are visible; suspenders may be worn in lieu of a belt
• Socks must be worn with footwear at all times
| Women |
• Pierced jewelry should be worn in the ears only (maximum two per ear)
• Jewelry should be non-distracting
• Backless apparel, exposed midriffs, uncovered sleeveless tops/blouses, and revealing (deep or low cut) or see-through blouses are not permitted
• Hosiery is required for hemlines mid-calf or above
• Skirt/dresses as well as, slits, flaps, or openings in skirts/dresses should cover ¾ of the thigh while standing or sitting
• Casual slacks may not be form fitting
• No shorts, skorts, Capri or cropped pants
| General |
• Specific job assignments or campus activities may require deviations from this code
• Departments that require uniforms include school nutrition, maintenance, transportation, custodial, and computer technicians
• This code applies to all school days, including staff development days on or off campus
• If attending meetings on other campuses, Region IV, etc., attire should be as on a regular school day.
• Duty days or summer schedule shall be “business casual”
• Variances may be approved for medical or religious reasons
| Physical Education, Athletics |
Physical Education teachers shall wear clothes appropriate for teaching physical education. Collared or crew neck shirts (with or without sleeves) with shorts no shorter than mid-thigh, coordinated warm-ups or wind suits, and athletic shoes may be worn. Spandex or garments that are form-fitting are not appropriate. Caps/visors/sunglasses may be worn while on duty outside the school building. Coaches assigned to classroom instruction for part of the day should abide by the general professional dress code guidelines. While inside the school buildings, P. E. teachers and/or coaches must wear warm-ups or wind suit pants.
| Nurses, Life Skills, PPCD , OT, PT |
Life Skills/PPCD teachers and aides (including special education aides assigned to mainstreamed students with severe disabilities requiring toileting, lifting, feeding, etc.), nurses, occupational/ physical therapists may wear warm-up suits and/or scrubs if they are clean, wrinkle-free, and in compliance with the general professional dress code guidelines regarding sleeves, length of pants, etc. This does not include wearing sweatshirts or t-shirts. Athletic shoes or nursing shoes may be worn.
