2004 Summer School Sessions![]()
Elementary, Secondary and Special Education
Elementary Summer School Requirements:
According to board policy, students in grades 2-5 must have a final grade of 70 in language arts, writing composition, reading and mathematics in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Students in grades 3-5 who do not pass the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test in reading, and or mathematics will also be REQUIRED to attend summer school. Students in grade 1 who receive a 2 or below in reading and/or mathematics in the last two 9 weeks grading periods will also be required to attend summer school in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Please note that attending summer school does not guarantee promotion.
| Elementary Summer School will be held at Baker 6th grade campus beginning June 7-July 1, 2004. School hours 8:30-11:30. Classes will be Monday-Thursday only. Transportation will be provided. |
Secondary Summer School Requirements:
In grades 6-8, if a student fails one or more of the core subjects, he/she must attend summer school for that course. Failure to attend summer school will result in retention. If a student fails one or more sections of the TAKS test for the enrolled grade and did not receive a failing grade in the corresponding course, he/she must take the corresponding summer school course IF dictated by the Personal Graduation Plan (PGP). A student in grades 6-8 that fails any section of the TAKS test and fails to attend summer school may lose an elective in the 2004/2005 school year. All PGP meetings must have been completed by the end of the 2003/2004 school year. In grades 9-12, a student will be encouraged to attend summer school in any of the above circumstances. Because of block scheduling, a student has time during the school year to retake failed courses but summer school will be HIGHLY encouraged as an intervention for high school students failing one or more sections of TAKS. This schedule assumes a course offering of all four core courses both sessions. Note that junior high periods are two hours and high school periods are three hours (due to credit attainment). A student may take one or two courses per session. A high school student may earn up to 1 credit per session. Cost is $125.00 per session.
| Students in grades 6-8 attending summer school for failure of one or more sections of the TAKS test attends at no cost. |
