BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT CENTER The DeWalt Behavior Management Center (BMC) serves as the Disciplinary Alternative Educational Program (DAEP) for LPISD. Students are assigned to the BMC for serious violations of the Student Code of Conduct. The Texas Education Code requires that students who commit certain offenses be removed from their regular campus and educated separately for a period of time. For certain other offenses, the Code allows campus administration to make discretionary assignments to the DAEP if that will improve the educational environment for that student and the other students on the regular campus. The BMC provides a highly structured academic and behavioral environment that focuses on core academic knowledge and skills with emphasis on personal behavior management. The program employs a system of levels that reward good behavior and personal accountability with increasing privileges. The district has the option of placing students at DeWalt for a short term placement (20-30 days) or for a longer term if it serves the overall needs of the student.
