La Porte High School construction nearing completion

Contractors said they expected that most teachers would be able to begin organizing in their new classrooms within a week, or so, as crews move furniture into the buildings. Incoming freshmen students, meanwhile, will begin classes on August 22; their sophomore, junior and senior counterparts will start school the following day.

The high school project is the largest and most comprehensive portion of the community-approved 2014 Bond, with an estimated cost of more than $100 million.

Much of the old campus was demolished to make way for modern facilities, including a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) facility, fine arts center and multi-purpose center. The remainder of the campus has undergone a complete overhaul.

Though the majority of the project is expected to be ready for the start of school. Refurbishment of the athletic field house is set to begin after football season.
